Paterson (NJ) / Montclair State University Strategic Prevention Framework – Partnerships for Success (SPF – PFS) Initiative

WHO WE ARE: The Paterson (NJ) / Montclair State University Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF) – Partnerships for Success (PFS) Initiative seeks to develop and coordinate comprehensive, data-driven strategies that help prevent alcohol – marijuana – opioid (heroin) use African American and Hispanic youth (14-17) and young adults (18-29) in the of Paterson, New Jersey.

GOAL: With the goal of serving 400 to 500 youth and young adults annually, this initiative has the potential to reach 2,500 unduplicated adolescents and young adults over the five-year project period.

We aim to reach this goal by:

  • Increasing the capacity of the SPF-PFS preventive intervention sites to reach more Paterson’s adolescents and young adults with evidence-based practices aimed at reducing alcohol, marijuana, and opioid misuse (heroin).
  • Decreasing the incidence of substance misuse by creating a deeper understanding of the negative impacts of alcohol-marijuana-opioid (heroin) use among racial and ethnic minority adolescents and young adults throughout Paterson.
  • Increase service utilization and participation in substance use disorder treatment programs and post-treatment/recovery support services that help prevent relapse and improve health-related outcomes among our target population.

Additionally, intensive efforts will be implemented at the inception of the project to plan and develop sustainability activities that will help ensure the ongoing expansion of comprehensive substance misuse prevention programs in the Paterson community.
